Jharkhand High Court has ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to inquire into nexus between officials of Ranchi Regional Development Authority (RRDA) and builders, that led to rampant construction of buildings in violation of building laws and haphazard growth of the capital city.
During hearing of a PIL on 23 March, on irregularities of the RRDA, a division bench of Chief Justice Bhagwati Prasad and Justice D N Patel said that deviations in plans and construction of buildings could not have been possible without the consent of officials or persons posted in high offices.
The two-judge bench observed that in the interest of an impartial probe, the CBI inquiry was needed. The registrar of the high court will frame an FIR, which would be forwarded to the CBI.
The PIL filed by one H N Lakhotia pointed out that RRDA had sanctioned maps for parking space in basements of the buildings which the occupants subsequently altered and converted into commercial units.
