The Gujarat High Court today ordered status quo and issuance of notice for the final disposal of election of National Co-operative Dairy Federation of India (NCDFI) chairman on February 28. |
Elections for the chairman was held on February 15 and the nominations of VG Kurien, chairman of GCMMF and Mahendra Singh, chairman of MP Milk Federation had been rejected. |
As the new board members have not assumed charges of their office as per Rule 45 (5) of the Multi-state Cooperative Act, the earlier board members and chairman Kurien shall continue to hold office till their successors are elected or nominated, a release said. |
The elections to the eight vacancies on the board of NCDFI and election of the chairman of NCDFI were conducted on February 15, by the additional registrar of co-operative, Gujarat V C Joshi, who was appointed as the returning officer by the central registrar. |
The elections were to be conducted as per the provisions of the Multi-state Cooperatives Act, 2002. However, the chairman's election was not even held within the time limit, the release added. |
The nominations of V G Kurien and Mahendra Singh had been rejected by the returning officer on the grounds that the nominations were proposed by persons who were not eligible or qualified to vote. |
GCMMF had approached the High Court against the rejection of their nominations saying that the returning officer had not prepared and published the eligible voters list and therefore their nominations could not be rejected. |
