Heavy rains ruin cotton crop

 Many of the cotton farmers have removed the damaged cotton crop and have planted vegetables and pulses.

 Though official figures are not available, cotton farmers in both these districts are understood to have suffered damages because of excessive rains.

 Many low-lying fields had been inundated following non-stop rains during the months. In Bharuch district, farmers are removing cotton plants and replacing them with pulses such as tuver, mung, grams and divela.

 In Surat farmers are replacing cotton with paddy and vegetables. Sowing of groundnut, cotton and pulses have taken place in over 1.46 lakh hectares in Surat.

 Cotton had been sown in 6,316 hectare in the fields of Surat district.

 In Surat, sowing of paddy has taken place in 63,796 hectare, jowar in 23,359 hectare and tuver in 31,612 hectare.

 Sowing of moong is done in 2,860 hectare, uurad in 3,999 hectare and other pulses in 1,388 hectare. Groundnut has been sown in 10,994 hectare, soybean in 1,027 hectare and grass in 1,423 hectare.
