Just 36 road construction projects for building 3,166 km stretch has been awarded in the current fiscal till February against the total target of about 12,000 kms in the entire FY10, Rajya Sabha was informed today.
"Work plan for 2009-10 only envisages award of projects of total length of about 12,000 km. During 2009-10... 36 projects of total length 3,166 km have been awarded till February 2010," Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways R P N Singh said in a written reply to a question.
The Ministry had last year formulated a 'work plan' for both FY10 and FY11 aiming to award projects for building about 12,000 km roads each year.
He added that in 2005-06 and 2006-07, contracts for construction of 4,740 and 1,734 km were awarded.
In addition to the 36 projects awarded so far in this fiscal, bids have been invited by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for 38 projects covering a length of 3,802 Km, Singh added.
