Hilly terrain, thick foliage and ravines are hindering rescue teams involved in pulling out the bodies from the wreckage of the Mangalore-bound Air India aircraft from Dubai that crashed near Bajpe airport here today.

The Boeing 737-800 that shot off the runway during the landing crashed into a hillock and fell into a 200 ft deep valley.

Even as the 15 rescue teams are engaged in the task of extricating the charred and mangled bodies, locals who have thronged the site in large numbers have been posing problems.

Western Range IGP Gopal Hosur appealed to the public to stay clear from the mishap site. Heart rending scenes were witnessed at the Wenlock hospital here where relatives were waiting to identify bodies of their dear ones.

Most of the bodies were charred beyond recognition. Rescue teams were finding it difficult to extricate the bodies from the badly damaged aircraft whose parts were disintegrating.
