In a major judgment, the Himachal Pradesh High Court has issued directions to the state government to take steps for setting up a pay commission and report to the court in three months .
The state was formed in 1971 but has no pay commission till date. It follows the pay scales implemented by the neighbouring state of Punjab, but this could end now.
The landmark judgment came earlier this week after petitions were filed by several employees demanding the latest pay scales on the pattern of Punjab.
The court ordered the state chief secretary to take steps to have an independent pay commission so it can fix and rationale pay scales on the pattern of Punjab.
The court said no one can claim a pay scale just on the basis of order issued by the Punjab government .
The Punjab government pay scales were not automatically applicable in Himachal.

Every pay scale was examined and after careful consideration, the latter was decided with the approval of a competent authority . The state also said since Himachal was an independent state and only its priers were applicable on its employees.
No one can claim a pay scale simply on the basis of an order of the Punjab government.
