The Himachal Pradesh government plans to amend the existing State Apartment and Property Regulation Act 2005 so that developers are made more accountable.
This decision was taken by the state’s cabinet sub-committee attended by four ministers who suggested some changes to make the Act tighter.
“Areas must be identified across the state for development of colonies and apartments. But this must be barren and non-agricultural land. The land will be issued for three years and renewed every two years,” said PWD Minister Gulab Singh.
“Developers will also be asked to ensure basic amenities like roads, foot path, water supply, sewerage, street lights in all upcoming colonies and flats, besides planting trees and rain harvesting,” he said.
He said in accordance with the national housing policy, 2007, at least 10 per cent of housing should be reserved for the economically weaker sections. Forest Minister J P Nadda said developers should first be asked to develop the area properly before being allowed to start construction.
