Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today inaugurated the first 300-Mw unit of the 2X300Mw Deen Bhandu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Project (DCRTPP) constructed on a turnkey basis by Reliance Energy Ltd's EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) division at Yamuna Nagar.

The project has come up at an estimated cost of Rs 2,400 crore and will make available 14.4 million units per day. The 300-Mw unit has been synchronised in 27 months while other similar projects in the country have been taking about 48 months.

The second phase of the project will be commissioned in March 2008.

This greenfield project, spread in 1,089 acre, commissioned by Haryana Power Generation Corporation Ltd (HPGCL), is the first of the 5,000 Mw power capacity addition proposed by the state in the next 4 years.

Reliance Energy had emerged as the lowest bidder in a stiffly contested international bidding process. The project was financed with debt: equity ratio of 80:20 wherein 20 percent of the cost was contributed by the state government.

REL is also constructing a 2x600Mw thermal power project at Hisar at an investment of Rs 4,297 crore. The first unit of the Hisar project is likely to be completed by December 2009 and the second unit by March 2010. The plant will have a capacity of 28.8 million units per day.

The chief minister also laid the foundation stone of a 6-Mw hydel power project, involving a cost of Rs 40 crore, at Dadupur village here today. The project, to be constructed by Bhoruka Power Corporation Ltd, would be built on a public-private partnership model, an official release said.
