Hyderabad-based National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM), a hospitality management education institute, is planning to set up a four-star hotel on its campus here. The proposed hotel, to come up in a public-private partnership mode on six acres, will also be used as a ‘learning laboratory’.
The institute has roped in Apitco Limited, formerly Andhra Pradesh Industrial and Technical Consultancy Organisation Limited, as the consultant. NITHM director AKVS Reddy said the proposal was still in the conceptual stage. “The project cost and the partnership model are yet to be decided,” he said.
The learning laboratory will help students hone their culinary and hospitality management skills and provide hands-on experience, according to a faculty member.
Meanwhile, the institute is gearing up to conduct placement activities in September. It has received requests from APTDC, and event management companies Corporate Solutions Redefined and Rachnoutsav, the faculty said. The current batch of MBA has 40 students.
Almost all the students have either been placed or offered internships in tourism and hospitality organisations like Carlson Wagonlit, Cox & Kings, Accor Novotel, Thomas Cook, SOTC–Kuoni, GMR and Deloitte in the campus selection process, which began in September last year. Salaries for the entry-level management trainees vary from Rs 12,000 to Rs 20,000 a month, the faculty said.
NITHM had launched its fifth batch of the MBA programme last week. It will run two batches for the MBA programme in tourism and hospitality.
