GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) has signed a memorandum of agreement with aircraft engine manufacturer CFM International (CFM) for setting up a CFM56 maintenance training centre to support its customers in the South Asian region.

CFM is a joint venture between Snecma of France and GE of the US

The training centre would be located at the aviation SEZ on the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport premises. GHIAL will build the facility and lease it to CFM.

GMR group chairman GM Rao said the new centre would help India's airline companies to reduce costs and create employment opportunities here.

Paul-Andre Chevrin, CFM International’s vice-president for India said the centre would mirror CFM facilities currently operating in France, United States, and China and would provide advanced courses in line maintenance and inspection of CFM56-5B and CFM56-7B engines, which power a majority of Airbus A320 family aircraft and Boeing 737s.

Once the facility is fully operational, it will train 500 engineers a year, he said in a release.
