The Centre for Climate Change of the Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI) will be organising an internation-al conclave and exhibition on climate change for the first time in India at Hyderabad from October 12. The theme of the event will be clear energy and energy security.

India has set a target to reduce its carbon emission by 20 per cent by 2020. The country’s per capita carbon emission is the lowest at 1.8 tonne compared with other countries at 18-39 tonne. India is the fifth largest polluted country in the world.

According to a report, nearly 60 per cent of the country’s landmass is susce-ptible to earthquakes, over 8 per cent is prone to floods, around 76 per cent of its coastline is prone to cyclones and 68 per cent area is prone to drought.

“Our aim to create awareness and training programme, besides capa-city building of experts, research and development,” Shalini Sharma, head, Centre for Climate Change, said.

The exhibition would showcase the latest techno-logies in green products, solutions and renewable energy. Companies would bring their mechanical and interactive exposition of technologies, products and solutions, which contribute to a climate-friendly global world.
