“It is in Assam that I have finally found a home that has given me a sense of belonging”, said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here on Friday.
The Prime Minister was in the city on a brief visit to attend the platinum jubilee celebration of Assam Legislative Assembly. Singh also inaugurated few advanced medical facilities at North East’s top cancer hospital – B Barooah Cancer Hospital.
“I remain deeply indebted to the people of Assam. I was born in a distant and dusty village in a part of this sub-continent that is no longer in India. At a tender age I became homeless and a migrant. It is in Assam that I have finally found a home that has given me a sense of belonging. The friendship, the affection and the warmth that each one of you have so readily extended to me is something I cannot and will not ever forget,” Singh said.
At B Barooah Cancer Hospital, Singh inaugurated ‘physical facility’ of the state-of-the-art Linear Accelerator with Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) and SRS/SRT, commissioned with grants-in-aid from North Eastern Council (NEC) and Department of Atomic Energy (DAE).
