"Now I can sleep for more than four hours," the 59-year-old Azad told PTI after submitting his resignation to Governor N N Vohra.
Making it clear that he was going to stay in the state and steer his party to victory in the forthcoming elections, Azad said, "I have done as much as I could do for the people of the state...I am satisfied with my stay."
Asked why he did not seek a confidence vote, Azad said "I brought the anti-defection law into the state and I never wanted to indulge in horse trading myself." "I have laid the foundation for a corruption-free and peaceful Jammu and Kashmir and I hope that it will continue to remain so," Azad said.
The senior Congress leader maintained that there were MLAs from other parties who wanted to support his Government.
