The UP IAS Association has stepped up pressure on the administration to take action against the the three officers who were named as corrupt by the February 15 AGM of the Association.
A delegation, which met the chief secretary recently demanded that the three should be stripped of their present posts and should not be given any sensitive posting. Secondly, all the decisions taken by them in the last five years should be reviewed. Lastly, their assets should be verified.
The names of the three officers were not officially made public since 100 votes were the minimum set for the names to be publicly announced. This was decided in the AGM of Aug 96. Although they had a majority, the radicals wisely adhered to the earlier decision, and managed to continue to occupy the high moral ground. The names, the AGM had resolved, should be sent to the chief secretary for action.

The three officers who got the highest number of votes were Mr Akhand Pratap Singh (67 batch, 81), Neera Yadav (71 batch, 80) and Brijendra Yadav (71 batch 80). The total valid votes were 114 and the total polling was as high as 135. Twenty one voters invalidated their vote. But as yet no action has been taken by the chief secretary, says a radical. The whole secretariat knows that some action or the other will have to be taken, and there is no escape from it. They will keep sitting on it till they are forced to do something, since this is the opinion of those who know from inside. Now the radicals are far more stronger then before, since this is the unanimous opinion of the AGM. The AGM had put its stamp of approval on the method of secret ballot and this will be a continuing feature of all the forthcoming AGMs. The radicals have now shifted focus to combating the yes man culture, the demotivating atmosphere, and the lack of intellectual integrity.
Moves are afoot to start a process of collaboration with others services where like minded are being contacted, so that general crusade may be launched.
The three officers against whom the whole of the association is arraigned, are finding it difficult to launch a counter attack. They had taken legal advice for filing defamation against the Association, but were advised against it.
They have only one weapon left. That is to threaten those who are charged with taking action with counter revelations.
But that is not going to cut much ice either. Moreover, even their political mentors cannot do much, since now they would not like to be seen supporting the corrupt.
