A top official of Jammu and Kashmir government hanged himself to death at high security Cheshmashahi in Srinagar yesterday, police said.
S.P. Kazal, an IAS officer designated as commissioner-secretary science and technology of Jammu and Kashmir government, was found dead in his residential quarter yesterday, police said.
Police said two attendants of the top bureaucrat informed the police when they failed to get response from the officer after repeated knocks at the main door.

Police rushed to the scene and found the body of Kazal hanging from a ceiling fan.
A suicide note was also recovered in which Kazal had not blamed anybody for this extreme step. However, marital discord is believed to be the cause behind his suicide, police said.
Police said the officer and his second wife had quarreled fllowing which he had been sent a divorce notice a few days back.
Kazal, a resident of Hisharpur in Pnjab and settled in New Delhi, lost his first wife and a daughter in a boat tragedy on Dal Lake in 1995, police said.
He re-married last year but his relation with his second wife was strained due to a daughter from his first wife, police said.
