Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the only national chamber based in Kolkata, today announced the opening of a new regional office at Bhubaneswar.
This is the third regional office of the ICC with earlier two being at Guwahati and New Delhi which are operational since 2006 and 2009 respectively.
Rajeev Singh, the director general of ICC, said, following remarkable success of the ICC’s north-east initiative, the chamber has decided to focus attention on the development of other eastern states like Orissa.
He said, the chamber will soon prepare an Economic Agenda for Orissa’s economic development and submit it to the government. The emphasis will be on development of sectors like steel, aluminium, textile, food processing, electronics, software, gems & jewellery and automobiles, basic drugs and pharmaceuticals and petro-chemicals.
The expertise of various specialized divisions of the chamber like infrastructure, industry, environment, agriculture and tourism will be applied towards development of these sectors.
Singh said, Orissa has a vast reservoir of natural resources like land, water, mineral wealth, long coastline and forests which is conducive for industrial growth. Besides, the state has good infrastructure facilities in the form of all modern means of transport-surface, air and water.
