For promotion of good design practices in country, Indian Design Council (IDC) is likely to come out with design certification mark called 'I-Mark' for industry, as a seperate recognition mark for design, an IDC member said here today.

"Concept of I-Mark is on the lines of G-Mark design recognition used in Japan or Red Dot adopted in Germany," Director National Institute of Design (NID) and member secretary IDC Pradyumna Vyas said.

Companies having I-Mark accredition will have distinctive recognition in industry, Vyas said.

IDC shall be conducting its second meeting in Mumbai today to work out the parameters for recognition of design, and discuss about the scope of introducing it here, he added.

The panel will consider aspects like environment friendliness, energy consumption, carbon footprint, user covenience, good design practices, as criteria, Vyas said.

I-Mark certification for design will be similar on the lines to quality certification issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards(BIS).
