The Indian Industry Association (IIA) is set to provide free Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) consultancy to the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) in Uttar Pradesh.

IIA has also joined hands with the Export Promotion Bureau of Uttar Pradesh and the Intellectual Property Lab to create mass awareness about IPR by conducting workshops and seminars through out the year.

This information was given by IIA President Tarun Khetrapal, at the "IPR for MSMEs" workshop held in Lucknow on the occasion of World Intellectual Property Rights Day.

Anil Gupta, secretary, IIA, said, "Though IPRs cover various aspects of our lives, the patenting of industrial design, which promotes ingenious inventions and trademark, is very important. There is little public awareness on the subject and even the entrepreneurs are not fully aware of the significance and the benefits which may be availed from the IPRs."

Also present on the occasion, Rahul Datta, an executive with the Intellectual Property Lab, emphasised on the importance of professionalism in the IPR sector.

He said, "The mode of approaching IPR law firms turns sour when the response comes late and that too with a hefty fee tag."
