IIM-A director flays govt on autonomy issueBS Reporter / Ahmedabad August 7, 2007Breaking his silence on the government's interference in the appointment of directors of the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), Bakul Dholakia, the director of IIM-Ahmedabad, whose term ends this October, today came down heavily on the HRD ministry for lack of transparency in its actions. He also lamented that the institutes of higher learning were now worried about managing the government more than anything else.Comparing the present situation faced by institutes of higher learning to that in the 1970s and 1980s, when the government played the role of a facilitator, Dholakia said the word autonomy was itself under doubt.
