The Indian Institute of Pulses Research (IIPR) has developed a high yielding hybrid of "Arhar dal" that has about 40 per cent higher productivity than its popular form. The Arhar hybrid called JTH-1 is proposed to be grown in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. Since the hybrid yields 40 per cent more produce, it can help meet the shortage of the pulse in the country, IIPR Director Masood Ali said. Ali said, during the workshop organised at the S D Agriculture University, Gujarat, six hybrids of various Kharif pulses, including Urad and Moong were identified. Other hybrids of Urad developed at IIPR are IPU 2-43, NDU 5-7 and Ballam Urad, he said.
