IIT Kanpur to set up Centre for Railway Research

Apart from conducting focused research, the centre will train manpower and explore possibility of offering academic programmes

Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K) and the Railways ministry have signed an MoU to set up a Centre for Railway Research (CRR) in the IIT-K campus.

The Railway ministry is setting up CRR at IIT-K to conduct collaborative research for advancement of technology in areas of interest to Railways.

The MoU was signed in New Delhi on December 22 in presence of the Railways minister, Railway Board chairman and senior Railways department officials.

IIT-K Dean of Research and Development Amalendu Chandra signed the MoU on behalf of the Institute.

CRR would carry out research in areas such as geo-tech engineering, advanced fuel efficient systems, propulsion technologies, fire safety management, wireless networking systems, advanced electronics, high speed track design, advanced signaling, Fog vision etc.

Apart from conducting focused research, the Centre would facilitate manpower training and explore possibility of offering academic programmes in research areas.
