Ahead of the Prime Minister's visit to the IIT here, some students today held demonstration outside the campus in support of Anna Hazare with some of them even claiming that they would give a miss to the convocation function to be attended by Manmohan Singh.

Holding placards and shouting slogans in support of Hazare the students are demanding a strong Lok Pal Bill.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to address the 57th convocation of IIT Kharagpur.

Sashi Sekhar Singh, a MTech structural engineering student, who is set to receive a degree from the Prime Minister said, "I will not attend the convocation function to express solidarity with Anna Hazare's movement for a strong Lok Pal and corruption-free India."

Ritesh Singh, a third-year Computer Science student of IIT Kharagpur is on a hunger strike from August 16 in support of Anna Hazare's movement.

Ajay Kumar Yadav, who is pursuing a Phd in Mechanical Engineering, and Rakesh Ranjan, a MTech student in Mechanical Engineering department, said many students, who are set to receive degrees from the prime minister "would go to the function wearing Gandhi caps and if the authorities refuse them permission to wear Gandhi caps then they will not attend the convocation function."

Govt says Anna Hazare's campaign is meddling with our parliamentary system. Do you agree? Leave your comments
