India, Pak Agree To Maintain Border Peace Along Border

Guns fell silent yesterday after India and Pakistan agreed to maintain peace along the international border (IB), a Border Security Force spokesman said.

K.S Vohra, DIG, BSF and colonel, Pakistani Rangers, Mohd Asghar led the two sides in a flag meeting of sector commanders of the BSF and Pakistani Rangers at the octroi post in RS Pura sector, he said. We lodged a strong protest with Pakistan over unprovoked firing on civilians by Pakistani Rangers along the 210-km-long stretch of border from Kathua to Akhnoor, the spokesman said.

Vohra also drew the attention of the Pakistan Rangers to the recent unprovoked firing on Devigarh village and its adjoining areas in which three civilians, an eight-year-old boy and two women, were killed and three others were wounded, he said.

But the Pakistani commander countered Indian contention and said they were only retaliating, he said.

Later the two sides agreed to maintain peace along the border.

Meanwhile, Pakistan again fired at border posts of SH Way, Matkola, Gakhrial, Khora and Pansar Monday night, he said adding no casualty or damage to property was reported from the Indian side during the mild exchange of firing.

The spokesman also denied reports that Pakistani guns had greeted the Union minister of state for home Maqbool Dar during his visit to border areas. in RS Pura sector on Monday.

Meanwhile, militants killed three members of a family in Jammu and Kashmirs udhampur region in anapparent retaliation to the death of an insurgent in an encounter with security forces, an official spokesman said here today.

Those killed in sundays incident at panchool village of dudu-basantgarh area were one rehmat ullah and his son mehraj-ud-din and daughter-in-law johri, the spokesman said.

He said the killings were in retaliation to the death of one of their activists in an encounter at the same place on september 24.

However, unofficial sources said the deceased were alleged to be the police informers, and the militants, after severely beating them up, silt their throats till they bled to death. Pti mkb sds ub 10141553
