India's ranking in the broadband sweepstakes is at 156 even though it has the third largest internet population in the world. India's richest man and chairman of Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani, wants to significantly improve the coverage and quality of mobile broadband through his telecom venture Reliance Jio. Even though India is going to be a mobile first country as far as broadband access is concerned, the coverage of mobile broadband in India is only about 15-20%, which his Jio intends to change with a pan-India coverage of 70%. He has also promised broadband coverage will be over 90% after Jio launches.
