India shines in Baseline Profitability Index
BS ReporterIndia moved up six places to become one of the top 10 destinations for FDI in 2014, according to Unctad's World Investment Report 2015. Now comes an index that shows India left every other nation behind in terms of providing return on that investment. According to Baseline Profitability Index (BPI), coined by Daniel Altman, an adjunct professor at New York University's Stern School of Business, and carried in the latest edition of the Foreign Policy magazine, India toppled Singapore, improving its ranking from 6th in 2014. An article written by Altman in the magazine says the big story is India coming out on top, with growth forecasts up, perceptions of corruption down, and investors better protected following the election of a government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Three groups of factors comprise BPI: How much an asset's value grows, the preservation of that value while the asset is owned, and the ease of bringing home the proceeds from selling the asset. Each of these groups of factors requires a different kind of assessment.
