Indian govt allocates Rs 500 cr for rehabilitation in Sri Lanka

The Indian Government has allocated Rs 500 crore for rehabilitation of the internally displaced people and reconstruction of areas in Northern and Eastern Sri Lanka. It may be noted already Prime Minister has committed Rs 100 crore relief support to these internally displaced.

Presenting the Union Budget for the year 2009-10 in the Lok Sabha today the Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said that the aid package for civilians displaced by the conflict between the Sri Lankan Armed Forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

He said “ the UPA Government is committed to ensure Sri Lankan Tamils enjoy their rights and legitimate aspirations within the territorial sovereignty and framework of the country's constitution. External Affairs Ministry was working closely with Sri Lankan Government to ensure rehabilitation of the displaced people”.
