Number of Indian visitors to South Africa rose 18% last year making it amongst the top five markets, the African country's tourism board announced today. According to latest available figures over 79,000 Indian tourists visited South Africa in 2012, an increase of 18.3% over the previous year.
"We are happy with the growth. The length of stay of Indian tourists to South Africa has not reduced and is around 10-15 days. Generally people are taking shorter holidays because the tours have become expensive but we have not seen the trend in South Africa. Infact Indian visitors are now exploring the country beyond Capte, Johannesburg and Sun City. We are also seeing growth in adventure tours with a lot of interest in activities like shark diving,'' said Hanneli Slabber, South Africa tourism's India office head.
South Africa Tourism began in promotional road show in Mumbai today which will travel to Hyderabad, Bangalore and Delhi in this week. Last year it held two such road shows and was attended by over thousand tour operators.
