Indo-German Tool Room holds its first convocation

Indo-German Tool Room (IGTR), Ahmedabad, a government of India society under the ministry of industry, held its first convocation ceremony on Thursday at IGTR campus here.

Naresh Chaturvedi, additional secretary and finance advisor, ministry of small industries, government of India, was the chief guest. He awarded diploma certificates to around 120 students of the institute.

IGTR has been set up under an agreement between the government of India, the Federal Republic of Germany and the government of Gujarat to help small scale industry by providing technically trained manpower and quality tooling. S M Ahuja, industrial advisor, tool rooms, development commissioner (SSI), New Delhi, said, "Technology is the key for development in the 21st century and SSIs are the engine of sustainable growth. We have nine such tool rooms across the country."

K N Shankara, director, Space Application Centre, Ahmedabad, said, "The young talents coming out of IGTR will play an important role in achieving the prime minister's dream of transforming India into a developed nation by 2020."

Arvind Aggrawal, industries commissioner, government of Gujarat, said, "The facilities provided by the institute are at par with the international standards, which will help the industries of the state. Gujarat is second to none but China in terms of industrial growth." Around 120 trainees were awarded the certificate and trophy. The trainees help the industries improve their productivity by means of the technical competency and sound technical knowledge in the field of tool and die making.
