Indore's district administration and its fire department have swung into action, reviewing fire safety norms in shopping malls and multiplex theatres in the city.

Recently, the fire brigade officials completed formalities by giving instructions to mall owners regarding safety, while the administration asked the sub-divisional magistrate to conduct a survey of the malls and theatres in the city.

The DIG, fire brigade, R K Gupta, convened a meeting of the representatives of the various malls in the city and reviewed the arrangements available at these malls for safety.

Neither Gupta nor the administrative officers wanted to know as to whether the shopping malls and the multiplexes are fulfilling the norms.

The SDMs would ensure whether there are adequate number of exit gates at the above-mentioned places. They would conduct survey in this regard, official sources said.

As per the recent survey, the latest mall in the city, Mangal City, as well as other malls like Treasure Island, Apollo Tower, Apollo Square were all found to be dangerous as far as fire safety systems are concerned.
