The petroleum ministry has allowed the Delhi government to swap gas supply between the Indraprastha power plant and the Pragati power project subject to overall supply not exceeding the total allocation of these power stations.

The gas allocation to the Indraprastha power plant is 0.84 million standard cubic metres per day (mmscmd) and to the Pragati power plant it is 1.75 mmscmd, totaling to 2.59 mmscmd.

The Delhi government had written to the petroleum ministry saying that since the Pragati power project was not able to draw its full quota of gas and the Indraprastha power plant was facing an acute shortage of gas, the petroleum ministry should allow swapping of gas between the two power plants.

The state government had requested the petroleumministry to advise Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) to consider the present total gas allocation of 2.59 mmscmd at one point as one allocation so that the allocated gas could be utilised in both the stations effectively without any constraint.

Moreover, the Delhi government has also asked the petroleum ministry to enhance the present allocation of gas of 0.84 mmscmd to 1.44 mmscmd to the Indraprastha power plant so that all its six gas turbines could be run which could generate another 100 mw of power.
