Industrial production maintained double digit growth rate at 11% in February this year - higher than the 8.8% growth rate in the same month last year. However, on a monthly basis, the growth rate of industrial production declined for the fourth consecutive month. The growth rate stood at 11.43% in January, 12.51% last December and 15.82% in November. In effect, while industrial production is cooling off from its previous high level witnessed four months ago, the annual trend is actually quite robust. Overall, growth in industrial output between April-February 2006-07 stood at 11.1% when compared with 8.1% in the same period a year ago.Central Statistical Organisation data, released here today, showed that manufacturing output increased 12.3% in February when compared with 9.3% a year ago, while mining grew 6.3% from 3.8% a year ago. The growth rate of electricity production decelerated to 3.3% from 9.1% in the same month last year.
