Industrial policy submitted

The revised draft of the Comprehensive Industrial Policy (2006-11) of the state, prepared by a three-member committee headed by former Union commerce secretary P P Prabhu, was presented to deputy chief minister B S Yediyurappa here on Tuesday.
 
Yediyurappa, who is also the finance minister, told reporters that the policy aimed at attracting more investment to the state. "It will target all round growth of Karnataka, apart from providing more sops to investors, especially those in the services sector," he added.
 
The draft policy will be placed before the state Cabinet for discussion. "The final policy will be worked within three weeks," he said.
 
BMTC incur loss: The state transport undertakings (STUs) have between them have incurred loss of Rs 2.60 crore as a result of the violence that erupted after the death of film star Rajkumar.
 
Karnataka transport minister C Cheluvarayaswamy told reporters here on Tuesday that as many as 500 buses owned by the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) and North East Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC) were damaged in the violence.
 
"Approximately 20 buses were burnt down in various parts of the state, while another 480 buses were damaged," he added.
 
The minister said that a major portion of the loss will be recovered through insurance claims.
