Jharkhand won’t entertain MoUs that need huge amount of land, water
The state government has decided not to encourage private players who want to set up greenfield steel plants and other industries that require huge amount of land and water.
Talking to Business Standard on the sidelines of a summit, “Rising Jharkhand - Land of Opportunities” organised by the Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) on Thursday, a senior official of the state government said that the government would, henceforth, focus on tourism, food processing, education and hospitality sectors which required minimum land and water.
"The policy of the state is that industrial houses should give more thrust on conservation of environment besides public welfare and reduction of regional disparities along with industrial development,” said chief minister Arjun Munda, addressing the gathering at the summit. Munda stressed on the need for skill development among young entrepreneurs of Jharkhand.
Meanwhile, according to industry department’s account, 74 memorandum of undertakings (MoUs) worth Rs 3,02,841.25 crore were signed by investors.
Now 49 MoUs for steel exist, out of these 17 mega industries with investment of Rs 22,972.87 crore are already in production and another six mega industries with investment of Rs 20,177.50 crore are in construction stage.
