Industrial units in the state need to adopt practices that are eco-friendly and as far as possible internalise them in their policies to benefit in the long run, Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) said here today.
Speaking at a workshop on Climate Change and Sustainable Development at the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) GPCB member secretary Sanjiv Tyagi said, "Sustainable development does not mean that there will be no damage to the environment. Industries must learn to use the natural resources, earn profit and put part of that profit in restoration and ugradation of the environment."
"Industries need to work on how to make their practices green, that is, causing least amount of damage to the environment and at the same time contributing to its enhancement. They need to internalise such practices in their system by the means of policies," Tyagi said addressing the participants.
Tyagi said that the industries near the coastal belt should plan conservation of marine resources, protect the mangroves and coral reefs. “Mangroves and corals naturally absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Hence, presence of such organisms help maintain the ecological balance in an industrial area," the GPCB Member Secretary said.
