The city-based International Trading Company (ITC) is setting up its first overseas tanning operations in Sri Lanka. The new tannery, with a capacity of 5.4 million sqft per annum, is being set up in Bata Atha Industrial Park in Hambantota district in Sri Lanka.
Apart from marketing and logistic advantages, the company decided to expand its operations outside Tamil Nadu due to the increasing pressure of stringent pollution control norms faced by tanneries in the state.
