The irrigation sector in Orissa is likely to get a boost as around 790 minor irrigation projects in Ganjam district will be taken up under the repair, renovation and restoration (RRR) scheme over the next three years at a cost of Rs 248.32 crore.
This was declared by the state Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik after laying the foundation stone for repair and renovation of 68 minor irrigation projects at Talapada village under Khallikote block in Ganjam district
After completion of the RRR scheme, 32379 hectares of land would be brought under irrigation in the district.
This Centrally sponsored scheme is being implemented in 21 districts including Ganjam with an aim to revive 1761 minor irrigation projects at an estimated cost of Rs 576.15 crore. “Our government is giving much stress on the small irrigation projects to create irrigation potential in the state”, Patnaik said while addressing the gathering.
