It Exports From Vepz Fall Steeply

During the current year, the software exports from the units of Visakhapatnam Export Processing Zone (VEPZ) fell drastically due to the downtrend in software market in the US and other European countries.

VEPZ officials targeted Rs 45 crores exports from the existing seven 100 percent exported-oriented software units during current year.

However, the exports were at only Rs 8.78 crores in the first nine months of current fiscal. There are not much hopes that the exports would pick up meet the target.

The software exports from the units of VEPZ were Rs16.15 crores in the year 2000-2001 and they jumped to Rs 29.87 crores in the year 2001-2002.

Net Decisions achieved touched Rs 5.84 crore and Xinthe Technologies reached to Rs 2.63 crore mark in software exports from VEPZ.

Pyxis Technology Solutions, Esseem Information Systems, Cambridge Systems and Van Burene Exports exported software worth only Rs 14 lakhs, Rs.6 lakhs, Rs 4 lakhs and Rs 10 lakhs respectively, VEPZ sources told Business Standard.

During last fiscal April-December VEPZ units exports were Rs 191.92 crores, whereas current year these exports were touched Rs 271.66 crores.

Originally, VEPZ officials targeted Rs 300 crores exports in first nine months, but achieved Rs 271.66 crores.

Out of the total Rs 271.66 crores exports, nearly 57 per cent occupied by World Wide Diamond.

The exports of World Wide Diamond touched Rs 155.39 crores in nine months, whereas last year exports were Rs 127.44 crores during the same period.
