Noting that peace and progress in the South Asian region have never been as critically linked as they are today, the PDP leader said the region's future lies in how its leadership copes with this challenge.
"On the one hand, the south Asian region is striving to catch up with the global race for economic prosperity, and is beset with regional problems on the other", Sayeed said in a statement here today.
Welcoming Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's assertion of making Jammu and Kashmir a bridge of friendship and cooperation between India and Pakistan, Sayeed described it as a "shared vision" between the PDP and the prime minister.
He also said the inter and intra-state confidence building and reconciliation measures announced by Singh for easing cross-LOC movement of people and goods is another milestone towards the implementation of this vision evolved to find an amicable solution of the Kashmir issue.
"After over six decades of instability we see a ray of hope and promise ahead", Sayeed said.
Hailing the proposed confidence building measures, announced by the Prime Minister for J&K, Sayeed said they add substance to the peace and reconciliation process in the state.

The measures announced by the prime minister include facilitation of easier and more frequent travel and trade between India and Pakistan through exiting and new routes, rehabilitation package for Kashmiri Pandits and the victims of violence.
"The contours of these measures match the imperatives of the emerging global scenario unlike in the past when rigidity and inflexibility refused to yield place to pragmatism and feasibility", he said.
