The government has approved a special tourism package of Rs 50 crore for J&K to develop tourism infrastructure in the state and improve facilities for the pilgrim tourists to the Amarnath shrine. |
A top officer of the state tourism department told Business Standard that of the total, projects worth Rs 5 crore had been cleared for Leh district, where a large number of foreign tourists come throughout the year. For raising infrastructure in Kargil, Rs 4.84 crore has been allocated while Rs 2.31 crore is being spent on the Bungus valley tourist resort in Kashmir. |

A package worth Rs 4.50 crore will be provided to Poonch district, Rs 3.66 crore for Gurez and Tulail valley of Kashmir while Rs 1.08 crore is being spent on the development of various villages around Sonamarg. |

Tourist resort of Patnitop in Jammu region is being developed with an additional package of Rs 2.83 crore while Bandipura and Anantnag would get Rs 3.45 crore and Rs 2.10 crore respectively. A package of Rs 7 crore has been cleared by the Ministry for Development of Road to the Amarnath shrine in south Kashmir. |

Bhaderwah tehsil, a part of Doda district and home constituency of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad will get a special tourism package of Rs 4.12 crore while Kishtwar district Rs 2.81 crore. Rs 2.06 crore have been approved for the Wullar lake in the Kashmir valley whereas Rajouri district of Jammu region is being provided a special package of Rs 4.34 crore. |

Under another project nearly fifty tourist villages are being developed in J&K. These villages have already been identified. They are being provided funds under the scheme to develop additional facilities in their houses to accommodate tourists, especially the foreigners, on the pattern of adjoining Himachal Pradesh. |
