Of the Rs 44.87 crore plan finalised at a meeting of district development board, Rs 39 crore has been earmarked for agriculture and allied sector, public works and other social services sector, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Minister Taj Mohiuddin, who heads the board, said today.
The Budgam District Development Commissioner Farooq Ahmad Renzu, who was also present at the meeting, said 15 primary and middle schools were upgraded, while 84,000 student up to 8th standard were provided free textbooks.
He said, 202 new schools were opened, 173 primary schools upgraded to middle level and 872 teachers were engaged as teaching volunteers during the period.
Under rural development sector, he said, 185,000 mandays of work were generated by completing of 1,043 rural development works.

He said national rural employment assurance scheme has been launched this month. Initially 10,000 rural youths have been registered, so far.
Renzu said out of 496 village of Budgam 475 villages have been electrified.
Bemina bridge has been completed after 20 years at a cost of Rs 10 crore during last fiscal. The foundation stone of the bridge had been laid in 1987-88, he said.
Three water supply schemes were completed at a cost Rs 2.39 crore and portable water was provided to 14,000 people of five villages.
