J-K spends Rs 116 crore under NREGS

About five lakh job cards were provided to rural youth, State Rural Development Minister Mula Ram today said addressing a meeting of Rural Development officers here today. A Detailed review was taken for successful implementation of the scheme and employment generation. Ram said all districts of the state have been brought within the ambit of NREGS with effect from from April 1. An unemployed rural youth requires to register his name for job in the local office of the Rural Development department in the first instance and, within 15 days, he would be provided employment for at least 100 days in a year, he said.

In case no job was provided within the stipulated period the youth would be provided cash stipend, he added. The minister said 310 training camp had been organised in different districts to train 47,000 persons. Ram said there was no dearth of funds for successful implementation of scheme and efforts were being made to cover more rural youth under the scheme.
