Japanese PM meets Tata, Mukesh Ambani

Visiting Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama today met top Indian industry leaders, including Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani and Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata, here.

During the meeting, the Japanese premier is understood to have discussed a host of issues, primarily the bilateral trade relations between India and Japan, a CII spokesperson told PTI. "The discussions were primarily on how to improve trade between India and Japan," the spokesperson said.

Over 20 top Indian industrialists, including Bajaj group's chief Rahul Bajaj, Maruti Suzuki Chairman R C Bhargava, Godrej group head Adi Godrej, Godrej & Boyce Chairman and MD Jamshyd N Godrej attended the meeting.

Hatoyama yesterday paid homage to the victims of the 26/11 terror attacks at Hotel Taj and Trident, the two luxury hotels which were targeted last year by terrorists, here.

The 62-year-old Japanese leader, who is accompanied by his wife Miyuki Hatoyama and a high-level delegation, was received at the Raj Bhavan by Governor S C Jamir at a reception dinner.

After the meeting with industrialists, Hatoyama will head to New Delhi, where he would hold delegation level talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
