Finance Minister Jaswant Singh lambasted the opposition for belittling the achievements of India on the economic and external fronts.

Kicking off the election campaign in Mumbai yesterday, Singh said the slogans "" India Shining, India On The Move and India Accelerating "" were not empty rhetoric but grounded in hard reality.

"The golden dream of Mungeri Lal is being fulfiled. The mentality of want and scarcity has been replaced with the mentality of plenty. From an era of instability we have moved to regime of stability and strength in the economy. People have shaken off the 50 year obsession with the same family and ideology", Singh said at a function organised by Bharatiya Janata Party's local unit in North-East Mumbai. "If this is not economic revolution, then what is," he wondered.

The third quarter GDP growth of 8.9 per cent is possibly the fastest achieved by any country in the world in recent times, the FM said and hoped that the economy will grow at the same clip in the coming few years.

The finance minster expressed his displeasure at opposition parties not taking pride in India's accomplishments in various fields and asked them the eschew their negative attitude.

The government, according to Singh, has restored the self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-reliance of India and also supported wealth creation.
