Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha and 10 others were yesterday summoned by a special judge to appear in court on October 7 in the multi-crore coal import scam.
Special Judge V Radhakrishnan took congnisance of the chargesheet filed against them by the crime branch-CID and issued summons to the accused.
The case pertains to alleged corruption amounting to Rs 7.82 crore in the import of two million tonnes of coal by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) in 1993.

However, the Centres sanction to prosecute the IAS officials was not received till yesterday., the judge took cognisance of offences against them only in respect of IPC Sections and not under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The four IAS officers are: then TNEB chairman N Haribhaskar, then chief secretary TV Venkatraman, then principal secretary, industries department, C Ramachandran (all three are no more in service) and then finance secretary N Narayanan.
The remaining accused include officials of the TNEB.
