Following state-wide agitation against anti-encroachment drive launched by Jharkhand government across the state in response to Jharkhand High Court’s orders, the state cabinet in its meeting on
Sunday approved the draft ordinance for regularization of constructions of commercial and residential multi-storied apartments that had built in deviation of building plans without sanction from civic bodies by imposing medium and hefty fines, depending on the category of existing construction.
Earlier, the state Governor M O H Farook returned the copy of the ordinance stating that the draft ordinance had not been cleared by the state cabinet. BJP-Ajsu-JD(U)-led government in its hurried cabinet meeting on Sunday evening passed the draft ordinance in accordance to the directive of the Governor.
According to official sources nearly 1.70 lakh buildings were constructed across the state without sanctioned plans. The anti-encroachment drive followed by police firings in Ranchi and Dhanbad, had reached to a climax after the opposition parties led by Jharkhand Vikas Morcha led former chief minister Babulal Mrandi, Congress and other opposition parties had demanded Presidents Rule in the state..
In the police firings on the protesters in the state capital Ranchi and the coal capital Dhanbad six persons lost their lives and over a dozen injured on April 5 and April 27.
BJP national president Nitin Gadkari in an unscheduled program reached Ranchi on May 9 and met the leaders of the coalition partners and asked them to be united. Ajsu.and JD(U) in the BJP-led government were opposing the anti-encroachment drive in the slum colonies in the state without proving rehabilitation to the evicted families.
