Jharkhand HC introduces trial by video conferencing

Jharkhand High Court had made a major achievement in introducing trials by videoconferencing for the first time in the country.

Deoghar additional district judge (ADJ) Sajjan Kumar Dubey held a camp court on Monday in Madhupur, about 45 km away from Deoghar and held hearings of a rape case of 2009.

The proceedings were beamed live at Jharkhand High Court in presence Supreme Court judge, Justice Altamas Kabir and Chief Justice Prakash Tatia.

In the above case, accused, Naresh Tuddu, was lodged in Deoghar jail. The Prosecution witness Henadhan Hansda, an uncle of the rape victim was examined.

Hansda narrated to the court about the incident of November 30, 2009, while his niece was returning from the local market in Gadi Puranpara village.

She was stopped by Tuddu, the accused,.also from the same village.

Tuddu took her to his house and raped her at night.

Next morning the victim managed to flee and told the facts to her family after that a case was registered and the accused was arrested.
