The Jharkhand High Court has pulled up the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday for not complying with its orders of March 30 to register a second FIR on the basis of the statement of Maumi’s mother Tapasi Choudhary under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and reinvestigate the case. The HC asked the CBI to clarify why a contempt proceeding will not be initiated against it in the alleged rape and murder of Jamshedpur-based aspiring airhostess Mausmi Choudhary (20).
Rajesh Kumar who appeared for the CBI told the court that the investigating agency had taken the decision to move the Supreme Court and therefore it did not lodge a second FIR. The Court rejected the plea.
It may be mentioned that Mausmi Choudhary was undergoing airhostess training at Hotel Sonnet in Jamshedpur. She was admitted to Tata Main Hospital in Jamshedpur on May 9, 2009 and succumbed to her injury 10 days later.
The local police (Bistupur) had concluded that Mausmi died of strangulation after her scarf got stuck in a machine. Tapasi Choudhary had approached the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court and sought a CBI probe into her daughter’s alleged rape and murder.
