The decision of shelving the project has taken more than two decades. The erstwhile Bihar and the Jharkhand governments are involved.
The decision has resulted in loss of Rs 70 crore to NHPC. Jharkhand energy minister Lal Chand Mahto had deferred the decision of the state government for shelving the project.
After becoming the minister in Jharkhand in 2001 he said that he had taken initiatives for reviving the power project to enable Jharkhand in pegging the hydro-thermal mix at a higher ratio considering the recommendation of the Centre for 60-40 thermal to hydropower ratio in all states.
He also said the ratio in Jharkhand is now 90-10. However, he pleaded for reconsideration of the state government
