The Joka-BBD Bag Metro rail project connecting the extreme south tip of metropolis with the central hub would be completed by 2013-14, Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi said today.

"Work is on in frenetic pace since the last two months and the project will be completed by 2013-14," Trivedi told reporters here after visiting several places on the route of the project.

"With the new government in West Bengal extending all cooperation, foundation work for the project has picked up pace and there will be no hurdle now," he said.

He visited Behala, Joka and Pailan, where the car shed would be built and said that care was being taken to ensure that people do not face inconveniences owing to the work along the arterial Diamond Harbour Road.

The Railway Minister was accompanied by state PWD minister Firhad Hakim and Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chattopadhyay.

The 16.72 km long project from Joka in the extreme south of the metropolis to BBD Bag at its heart is being constructed by Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd.
