KJ Alphons, the former Delhi Development Authority commissioner-turned-politician, on Thursday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. This comes after party president Nitin Gadkari was impressed with his record as a bureaucrat and member of the legislative assembly in Kerala.
Although Alphons is an independent MLA and had won the election with the support of the Left Front, he resigned merely two hours before joining BJP, saying he was impressed by the development agenda of the party.
To make the most of Alphon’s experience in bureaucracy, BJP has made him a member of the development cell of the party, apart from offering him membership to the national executive.
“I see BJP on the path of development and, so, have joined the party. I want to work for people who are below the poverty line and don’t get enough food to eat,” Alphons said, while talking to reporters.
After resigning from the IAS in 2006, Alphons got elected from the Kanjirappally assembly constituency in Kottayam district of Kerala as an independent candidate.
